It comes to no surprise that acne scars can have a major impact on a person's life. In the 21st century it is important to look good, because it is your appearance that gets judged by other people. The good news is that dermatologists are not just wasting our tax dollars and actually have made some great strides in the skin care department.
That's why I want to make this point clear: before you even start treating your acne scars, make sure that you consult a professional. A human's body is unique, and every treatment is dependent upon his medical history; maybe you will need a laser treatment, while others will just have to wait for a few weeks before scars disappear by themselves.
I've compiled a list of the most common treatments for acne scars. These are not home treatments, so don't even try to do them by yourself. Every medical procedure, no matter how easy it might be, requires a professional who will do it.
1) Chemical peeling - your dermatologist may apply a certain chemical peel on your scar. This will cause your old skin to peel away, while causing fresh skin to appear.
2) Dermabrasion - many people consider it to be the most effective treatment against skin irritations. The procedure, in theory, is really simple: your dermatologist freezes your skin (or uses an anesthetic) and then applies a rotary abrader that removes the affected skin area. In a week or so you will see how your skin will start healing again.
I like dermabrasion because it also reduces deeper scars.
3) Skin Surgery - this procedure is not really complicated (of course that really depends on the scar). During this process a patient will have his skin surgically corrected.
4) Soft Tissue Filling - a patient gets collagen injected in the affected area, causing the skin to give a smooth appearance. This is not really a good method, because this process may need a further repeat after 6 months.
5) The already mentioned Laser Therapy - the dermatologist uses the laser to give a new shape to the scarred area.
Also, there is a good chance that your acne scars will heal themselves. Of course, you won't know that unless you consult a doctor first.
These are some methods that doctors use to treat acne scars. I encourage you to take some medical advice before doing anything rash and stupid. Every decision needs to be made with a cool head.
